Broken Shore Campaign

LOOK AT THIS MAP! LOOK AT HOW HORRI--I MEAN BEAUTIFUL IT IS!

Welcome to the Broken Shore, ladies and gentlemen! Everything is awful, wants to kill you and the odds are not in your favour!

Hey people. It's Cagi here, and after months of building this system, I am pleased to announce two systems that are exclusive to the Broken Shore experience:

1: Territories

2: Reputation

Territories:

Ugly? I know, I'm terrible at drawing diagrams. Sue me.

Anyhow, the blue crosses I've marked as Legionfall territory while red is marked as hostile. The black lines are supply lines, allowing forces to reinforce territories using adjacent/connecting bases and paths. This can mean sending large amounts of forces to batter at bases from the beginning may not be very wise, and reminds the player that Legionfall is STILL the underdog.

What of the green crosses off on the side, you ask? Should players opt to tackle these bases, they can funnel a special resource to the nearest territory, granting them a nice boon in future assaults.

The Legionfall bases are:

-Deliverance Point

-Vengeance Point

-Aalgen Point

Hostile bases are:

-Soldier's Torment/Coast of Anguish

-Darkspear's Might

-Soul Ruin

-Garrison of the Fel

-Shadow Fracture

-Creeping Grotto/Darkstone Isle

-Path of Suffering (NEW)

-Felrage Strand (CHANGED FROM SUB-BASE!)

-Wrynnfall (Story event only)

-Screaming Cliffs (Story event only)

-Tomb of Sargeras (Requires capture of Wrynnfall and Screaming Cliffs)

Sub-bases are:

-Stonefin Shoals/Deadwood Landing/Lion's Oath

-Lost Temple

"Bases! Great!...What do I do with those?"

The war for the Broken Shores I could see not lasting too long, but certainly having some MEAT to it in between simply having bosses thrown at everything, and this is a perfect opportunity for players to make a name by using their intellect, combined resources and raw might when it comes to making their mark in the story. Player actions could include but are not limited to:

1: Assault a base! Gather your troops, smash them against theirs and try to take the base!

2: Sabotage/infiltrate! Weaken the defenses of a nearby base by sending a saboteur or assassin to weaken enemy numbers or take out powerful enemy units!

3: Blockade! Boy, those roads sure do look branching. It'd sure be a shame if someone were to stop the Legion from getting access through a crucial road.

4: Defend! OH YES! WE CAPTURED THE BASE! Wait...OH NO! THEY WANT IT BACK! Quick! Gather your forces to mount a defensive against their assault!

As players start to make decisions for themselves on the battlefield, influencing it to their way, we can take note of just what was being done at each time and by who by having a DM log down in this thread each time there's a change in the battlefield. This way, players have a self-created fame as a leader or soldier of note. Base owners will need to be open for communication with DMs that wish to mount any future Legion assaults, and if not, control could be passed to another player present in the initial Legionfall assault or have it just captured by default. Of course, there could and honestly should be rewards for people who take part in a lot of the capturing of the Broken Shores.

Do I intend for this to be a long campaign? No, but I could see a good amount of time being put towards small events with big impacts on not just player actions but player presence in Paragon and the WoW universe.

Base/Force Strength

All bases will have a strength value, save for the following:

-Deliverance Point

-Vengeance Point

-Aalgen Point

-Wrynnfall

-Screaming Cliffs

-Tomb of Sargeras

All bases have a strength value of 1, then increase by 1 for each interconnecting supply line next to an allied base of a value of 1+, including the above bases.

This can mean bases like Garrison of the Fel can have a strength value of 4 due to being connected to Soul Ruin, Wrynnfall, Screaming Cliffs and Scavenger's Edge. This will not be an initially easy fight without some outside preparation.

Meanwhile, Coast of Anguish would only have a value of 2, meaning their forces are weak and can be defeated or sent into even further dire straits with the right bombs, daggers or blockades in the right place. A rippling effect that can lead to destabilisation of Legion forces.

What of the forces we can dispense from the 3 points?

Well, what if the forces can only be dispensed at a limited number at the moment due to a tight defensive strategy, meaning precision attacks are required to break a hole in the seemingly airtight defenses of the Legion. This means military strength leaving would have a value of 2, and fights with bases of higher strength would be uphill battles. 2 vs 3? Tough but doable. 2 vs 4? You're asking for trouble, buster. HOWEVER, the strength of a force can be increased by a value by one of the sub-bases conquered and grantable by the owning force.

What would this initially mean for the bases involved strength-wise?

-Coast of Anguish (2) (Connected to Scav Edge)

-Scavenger's Edge (5) (Connected to Garrison of Fel, Soul Ruin and Coast)

-Shadow Fracture (4) (Connected to Soul Ruin, Creeping Grotto and Wrynnfall)

-Creeping Grotto (3) (Connected to Shadow Fracture and Wrynnfall)

-Garrison of Fel (5) (Connected to Soul Ruins, Shadow Fracture, Wrynnfall and Scav Edge)

-Soul Ruin (4) (Connected to Shadow Fracture, Garrison of Fel and Scav Edge)

-All sub-bases (2)

What do the values mean?

1 - In ruins, hardly a challenge

2 - Small-scale units, little reinforcements

3 - Elite units, decently fortified

4 - Large amount of enemy units, heavily fortified

5 - Plot levels of strong. Are you really sure?

"Wait a minute. These bases are all really strong! How can we fight each of them?!"

I will emphasise here:

YOU ARE THE UNDERDOG IN THIS CAMPAIGN!

Luckily, there are actions you can do to make assaults and defenses easier!

What will alternative player actions be able to do?

-Infiltration/Assassination: Destroy resources/kill a territory officer and reduce value by 1. Only doable once. Effect lasts unless reinforced.

-Blockade: Sever supplies from all bases able to utilise that area of the road, can reduce values by 1 or more depending on how many bases can be connected.

-Clear blockade: Destroy enemy blockade

-Reinforce: Remove effects of infiltration/assassination. Can also increase supplies by 1 (Requires group of 5) (requires second group if removing effects).

These alternative actions will be useable by players to weaken enemy bases and strengthen their own, so tactical play is important!

Reputation

Players will be able to gain reputation points by attending events and proving an asset to the field.

Legionfall reputation will tie in with Order Hall reputation, and will grant the player access to three kinds of rewards they can choose from:

-Money

-Order Hall/Faction Forces

-Special resource exclusive to Order Hall/Faction

The order of reputation will go as such:

Neutral: Ally

Friendly: Soldier (3 events required) (May acquire 10g, 3 Order Hall/Faction soldiers past regular cap of 5 NPCs or access to specialised Order Hall/Faction crafter that will craft using supplies YOU gather)

Honoured: Veteran (6 events required) (May acquire 10g, 3 Order Hall/Faction soldiers past regular cap of 5 NPCs, 1 elite Order Hall/Faction unit or access to specialised Order Hall/Faction crafter that will craft a specialised accessory)

Revered: Hero (9 events required) (May acquire 10g, 3 Order Hall/Faction soldiers past regular cap of 5 NPCs, 1 elite Order Hall/Faction units, access to specialised Order Hall/Faction crafter that will craft a specialised weapon/upgrade your weapon OR one request for an Order Hall/Faction champion to assist in an event)

Exalted: Champion (12 events required) (May acquire 10g, 3 Order Hall/Faction soldiers past regular cap of 5 NPCs, 1 elite Order Hall/Faction units, access to specialised Order Hall/Faction crafter that will craft a full set of gear, one request for an Order Hall/Faction champion to assist in an event OR access to a special ability, spell or mutation exclusive to a set class/profession)

Note = At Exalted, if all elite units have been chosen, they can be exchanged for a large unit.

For the DMs

I need you guys to work with me a lil' more closely!

Communication is key, and many thanks to Sage for providing the following link for keeping track of reputation: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KLixGcvd-GsodikahOP-FzYw-APaEumRbIRoBtcLvlI/edit?usp=sharing

Any changes that occur in the Shore, such as alteration in points, post each change in here and the information will change!

FAQ

Do special tactics affect battles?

Not necessarily, but smart RP can win fights where you are the weaker force. I'm trying to keep this system as simple as possible.

Who is DMing this?

EVERY DM that can. Contact them on the fly with the forces on hand and if they're available, let it commence.

Is this a lore campaign?

No, and DMs are not obligated to take everyone on board as a result, so if you've peeved someone, don't expect them to take you out of obligation so finding a different one may be necessary if that's a factor.

How often can we expect campaign events?

Nearly daily.

What happens when I conquer a base?

You've conquered it. It's yours until it's taken or the campaign ends.

Do lore events in the Broken Shore give reputation?

Yes, and some of you have already gained 1 reputation point already. This will not apply to events that take place outside of the Broken Shore. Legionfall reputation MUST be earned at the Broken Shore.

If this takes off, will it come back in the future?

There are no more interesting warzones after Broken Shore and Argus, so if so, it will be in the form of a non-lore setting.

What happens if someone's a dingus in an event?

If they act like they don't deserve praise or reward, they don't get rep. If they act in detriment, they can LOSE reputation and attached rewards.

Can we bring forces?
Small amounts? Yes. In a large-scale battle? You can bring more.

What if I wanna do recon?
Then I'm afraid it does jack shizzle. That's just fluff and provides no substantial benefit aside from general knowledge. It also does not reward rep points. I'm not stacking mechanic after mechanic in this for the heck of it. I need to keep things relatively simple.
